Keeping Christ in Christmas - The Life of Christ - Day 1

Well hello again.  There appears to be a thick layer of dust on this old blog.  Poor thing has been neglected these days.  I've been so busy with kids, and buying a house and moving and Jamberry and Num's the Word that something had to give, and sadly it was the family blog - really the one thing that shouldn't have gone unkept but alas it has.

So for those two readers we have - which by this point is probably ZERO readers, you'll recall that we do a family Christmas advent every year.  It's quirky, silly and hopefully reminds us of why we celebrate this time of year.  Every year is a different theme and every year there is at least one memorable photo.

We started it when Amelie was 2 as a Christmas gift for family.  We literally have these cute envelopes and put inside the photo and scripture/message in each one.  And so every day our family members can open their envelopes and read the stories and laugh at our quirky photos.   After Christmas everyone sends their envelopes back and we store them away until the next year.

Now Amelie is 4 and though she takes direction well, it still requires a sugary bribe for most photos.  Ephram is 1 and in no way wanted anything to do with this tradition - bribe or no bribe.  Any time I whipped out the camera, he would immediately freak out.  A full out scream/temper tantrum rage that would end the exact moment we put the camera away.

A few other things to point out that make this year slightly unique.  We usually do our advent photos during the month of November.  However we decided to buy a house this November.  So between packing and unpacking we lost our costume make up, wigs and robes.  So we worked with what we had  and for most photos gave up on the "authentic" costumes and went with the classic occasional sheet or towel - really what ever we could find as we unpacked. :)

Sit back, relax and enjoy a few quirky photos that attempt to represent our Saviors life.  Each day we'll post a new photo and scripture(s) helping us remember the true meaning of Christmas.  Follow along, leave comments and feel free to share!

Luke 1:26-38

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
