Merry Christmas! Our Christmas was a unique one. One that we didn't expect but were very happy with. It all began back in November. We decided, as you know, to do a Christmas advent calendar. In doing this, all of November was spent focusing on the Savior. Then when December came around, we again focused on the Savior.
Amelie has no idea who Santa is other than a cartoon character. We didn't do Santa pictures, we didn't hype up being good for Santa and we didn't talk about Santa. Instead we focused on doing things for others and our Savior.
So when Christmas morning came around, little miss thought it was just any other day. We woke up, ate breakfast, and then when asked if she wanted to open one of the gifts under the tree, she promptly said no, she just wanted to play with grandma's toys.
After a bit of coaxing, we were able to get her to open a few gifts (not the usual fanfare most families go through). She also helped Grandpa open some of his.
Then after each gift was open, we had to open the toy up and play with it before she would open another gift. After we got about half way through her gifts, she was done. She refused to open any more and just wanted to be left alone to play with her toys.
It took until 7:00 pm until she opened the last gift. This of course was something we had been trying to get her to do all day.
So Christmas came and went and little miss is none the wiser about Santa. She colored everyone pictures for their stockings, made yummy treats for friends and overall was taught the true meaning of Christmas.
We know that we can't avoid the Santa thing forever. But we also wont be pushing it either. So as you can see, our Christmas was a bit unusual but absolutely perfect for our family!
