Ok, so now you know Amelie has had 3 different trick or treating events thus far this year. All preparing her for the BIG EVENT. The kids in our apartment complex started trick or treating BEFORE 5 pm. I REFUSE to hand out candy before 6. GO HOME AND EAT DINNER!!
So at 6:30 we packed up into our car and headed to a local neighborhood. We all got dressed up and headed out. Ephram as a pumpkin (really I wish I had a better costume for him), Amelie decided as we were walking out the door she'd be Elmo ( a costume I bought on clearance last year for dress up), I was my usual funky chicken and Ben was his usual self.
Amelie LOVED it and everyone was super sweet to her. We were surprised at how generous this neighborhood was with their candy. EVERY house gave out at least 2 pieces (of GOOD candy) but most gave a small handful. We were most surprised at how many people insisted Amelie take an extra piece for mom since they loved my costume and one house even passed out cans of boos to all the kids.
(can of pop in white tissue paper with a ghost face on it).
Amelie's bucket became full after just one small block. So we had to go back to the car and empty it out just to do a second block. After that block it was again full. We were content to be done but Amelie asked if she could go ONE MORE TIME. Seeing as how this event only lasts ONE DAY a year, and you only get to truly enjoy the holiday for a few short years, we said sure. So Ben stayed with Ephram in the car to feed him while Amelie and headed out for our last block.
Afterwards we hit up our neighbor's home to show off our costumes and ask for a family picture. They were a bit sad at how FEW (1) trick or treaters they had for the evening and gave Amelie TONS of candy (all of which will most likely come back to them in different forms).
After Amelie went to bed I put all the candy from all 4 trick or treating sessions in one bag and was surprised at HOW MUCH there was. 99.9% of which will NOT be consumed by Amelie.
Lucky for everyone, baking with candy is one of my favorite things.
Anything chocolate can be added to some type of dessert and anything non chocolate can be used at cookie toppers or cupcake toppers or even used for gingerbread houses! Nothing will go to waste in our home!
Overall it was a GREAT week full of fun and activities and LOTs of candy. Now we just need to get around to carving our pumpkin. There has been something every night that has prevented us from doing it. But that wont stop us. A pumpkin must be carved EVERY year, late or not! Maybe tonight?!
