Today was National Public Lands Day - and I know that all of you were out volunteering just like us!
So alas, our church encouraged us to all go out and help the forestry service plant trees. We being the super bright eyed and bushy tailed people we are thought, why not, we'd love to get up at 6:30 and plant trees! So alas we went and though a long day, had a great day!
Us killing time until instructions are given.
Amelie became our water girl. She would fill up her cup and carry it to the newly planted trees and bushes and water them. Everyone was really great to her and helped her to feel like she was an important part of the process!
This is where all the water was kept. We'd have to walk (really run out of excitement) to get more water. Amelie was pretty sure that it would make a GREAT swimming pool after all the work was done!
After a while, Ams started to get a bit bored. So we thought we'd go on a scavenger hunt that the Forestry service set up for kids.
When we were all done, Ams got a red slap bracelet. Seeing as how we had to wake her up earlier than usual to do our service project she was tired and cranky. We still had more to do, plus lunch and a raffle after too and needed to do SOMETHING to keep her happy and going. So we played with seat belts for a bit in the car. As you can see, it seemed to do the trick!
Next was talking to the Forest Rangers about the recent fires and getting to test out all their equipment. Amelie was especially interested in the helmet - but quite concerned that it was a bit too big for her.
Next keep Ams distracted and happy activity was tossing rocks down by the river! This could last for HOURS if we let it!
Amelie really likes Leah, Ben's boss' daughter. So she and Leah played on the toys for a bit together.
Finally lunch. This little chick was sooo tired though that she ate about 3 beans before needed to be held and walked. Being held and walked means.... nap time!
She slept through the live band that was playing music (which NEVER happens as this girl has MUSIC in her soul). But we stuck it out and waited for the Raffle. And lo and behold, we won a $25 gift card to our local sporting good store! Woo Hoo!
